Redesign Contect Redesign

Tuesday, January 27, 2004

I got a good question today: How do I show you what I made?

My first preference is to get a URL from you and be able to see and interact with the work you have created. My second preference is to receive a compressed file (Mac compatible please) via email with everything you created.

Also, because I took so long to answer questions, and because my redesign is not "mission-critical" I am going to extend the contest deadline by one week. I know some of you have been working to meet the January 30 deadline, but my slowness shouldn't be a factor in this situation.

Realize this is something that most clients do and they still want you to meet the artificial deadline that was set before they even hired you. ;)

No extra points for finishing my the 30th, but you also don't have to wait until the new deadline (Feb 6) to submit your work.

Thanks to all who are working on this. Looks like we will have 6 entries.

Redesign Time - Parte Deux

Monday, January 12, 2004

I just wanted to say thanks to the 6 and counting people/teams who have taken the challenge to redesign this site.

I wanted to add a thought for you all: look at this as an opportunity to turn your experience into a white paper/case study. I think it would be interesting if everyone did this and we could collect the experiences into a couple of posts taking about redesign, requirements gathering, CSS, or whatever.

Just a thought;

Also, if I get more than 10 entrants I will offer prizes to the top 3 winners (cascading down in dollar amount:), not just the top winner as stated below.

This is fun!

Game Design/Design for Kids

Sunday, January 11, 2004

I've been meaning to post this site for a while. My daughter loves it and I find it much less annoying over time than Nick Jr., and PBS Kids.

The main site kidsgames.org is a launching point for multiple inner sites, but we frequent the zero to 6 age range site of Boowa and Kwala. If the link doesn't go directly, click under the "UptoTen Kids - 2 Options" heading to play online.

Over all I think it is a very well designed site. From a technological aspect as well as a learning and development aspect. The navigation could use some help, but when you spend as much time in the site as we do, you learn it quickly. Not sure how many of you have kids, or are interested in designing for kids. I think it is a neat area, but it just can't beat insurance and financial services... (yes that was your sarcasm detector going off).
