are you sure?

Because I’m not. It seems surreal that Saddam has been captured. Perhaps my senses have been dulled, but I don’t feel that excited. Instead I am struck with worries.
My immediate thoughts: How will the Bush machine spin this? Will he be given a fair trial? It still doesn’t mean that we can leave Iraq. If only Osama bin Laden was this easy to capture. What will be the reaction internationally? Can this help Iraqis heal?
What I really hope is that now it is possible for a sustainable democracy in Iraq. One that they have control of, less the prior economic restraints, and one we leave alone to flourish. One that through its flourishing, allows generation after generation of people to live without oppression — and with freedom.

I think the Saddamīs capture wonīt make such a difference. What really makes difference is, for instance, making hundreds of thousands unemployed in Irak (and many more indirectly hit by that) just because they belonged to the Baat Party…
Itīs just a matter of strategy.

The world is a better place without Sadam, Iraq is a better place without him as well.
He is (was) evil, and there is plenty of video taped evidence of him violating many crimes. In one circumstance, personally killing 25 people. None of them received a fair trial, so why should he?

I agree that he was evil. However, if he isn’t given a fair trial, I can foresee tons of backlash from the international community. We already get enough (for about everything); we don’t need more.

And, yes, I agree with you Lindsey.

I agree to. The worst thing to come out of this whole situation is the angst that now it seems every other country now feels about America. Most of the comments are aimed at Bush at least. I dont think he will be elected another term.
