day old thoughts

I’ve mentioned before that it has been quite chilly and wintery here. What else is there to do when it’s blizzarding and a chicken carcass is found in the icebox? Make chicken noodle soup of course. So I did. Homemade noodles and all. Quite tasty.
I’ve been going through a switchback though not at all this drastic. Since my laptop is on the lam, I’m using my old desktop — circa 1999. Thus, gone is XP and I’m forced to use Win 98SE. To be honest, I’m quite enjoying it. My recent experience has caused me to decide I need to optimize XP because 98SE is sooo much faster than XP — even on less that optimal hardware, memory, etc. I also installed Firebird, which was no small task given my dial-up speed of 26.4k. But the reward was worth the trouble. It’s very fast, blocks all pop-ups until I unblock the site, and, ala Mozilla, is standards compliant. My next feat shall be to install a CD burner. (Yes, my desktop is that old).
Spammers have found my weblog. I will fight back if it gets out of hand.
