wtf?

So, I’m watching Dr. Phil (shush. I know.), and there’s a couple on lamenting about not getting their kid into the best preschools. The preschools all required a difficult application process and interviews with the parents as well as the kid. Wha?!? What happened to preschools at churches that you drop the kid off at and pick them up three or four hours later? Heck, I didn’t even go to preschool, and I like to think I turned out OK. I know a family with four kids, none of which went to preschool or kindergarten, and three graduated as valedictorians of their high school class.
Is this a yuppie thing?
