Patriot schmatriot

Did anyone catch Ashcroft on the ABC nightly news today? Apparently, he’s been travelling about the US on a PR tour for the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act may be bound for permanency. Ashcroft notes that our security is worth the loss of liberties. Hmmm. I respectfully disagree. I have an idea. Let me decide what liberties I’m willing to give up. Ashcroft does not speak for me. I honestly don’t think he speaks for very many people — including those in NYC. It’s like a crazy political monster oblivious to the fact that the US is a democracy.

Frankly, the music industry frustrates me. While, I believe that downloading copyrighted music is illegal, how the music industry has handled it is an abomination. It continues to blame all of its profit decreases on illegal downloading, but I see it another way. Have they stopped to do a CVP analysis? Perhaps if they dropped CD prices just a couple dollars, profits would rise. Hmmm, perhaps they need to reevaluate their business model. Move with the times, not against them. If the music industry refuses, I truly fear the legislation they may be able to push through and how that legislation will tear apart my right to privacy.
