I am but a geek at heart

I hope someone out there can appreciate this as much as I do. Tim’s recent entry made me think about this. Hehe.

Unfortunately for me, management has forced me to use a third party class called StayingLate to get my time. Here’s what mine looks like:

if ( (CST + 1 ) == StayingLate.TIME ) {
    goHomeAndWatchDragonBallZ();
    return tomorrow;
}

the stupid problem is that i cannot find where TIME is defined anywhere in their code and so my code won’t compile. when i do a system out on StayingLate.TIME i get “undefined”.
This sucks.
I forsee an eventual problem when and if i ever find how StayingLate.TIME is defined. I’m still waiting to hear back from tech support because I am afraid the time will be returned with a date attached to it (tomorrow’s to be precise). thus, my return statement “return tomorrow” will probably return incorrect results (it will already be tomorrow so “tomorrow” will be “tomorrow + 1″. argh. i hate third party software.

I decided to play with your problem in my off time (shame on me). I think I have the solution. You need to have your class implement the IDon’tGiveACrapAboutYourStupidDeadline interface in order for your code to recognize the !StayingLate.TIME constant.

I’ve got it working for me, but it’s not an easy thing to convince your supervisors of all the time. You’ll probably have to pass the YESIHAVEALIFE constant to the calling program and you’ll have to override the iWillLoseMyJob(boolean) method. I delicately balance that with constant hyperlinking to www.dice.com and www.hotjobs.com plus I give my peers the I’mFlatOut class to keep them happy.

I would definetly not recommend this solution for a newbie. It takes years of practice to get it exactly right, and I’m pretty sure I’m not even there yet, but my situation is desperate, so I have to try. Maybe someone else has better insight than me?!

Good luck mackee!!

This still makes me laugh. Ah, good times on the java forum.
