Did you miss me?

Posted on | August 28, 2003 |

I’m back. Did you miss me? I doubt it, but here’s the tale of my adventures (misadventures?) in the last week.

I stopped in Vermillion, caught up with my comp. sci. homies, saw a few friends, had my fill of delish (did I just say that?) mocha frappes from latteda’s, then buzzed down to Omaha for the weekend. A crazy weekend it was too. I stayed up way too late, among other things.

Tabitha and I wandered back to Vermillion on Sunday. The plan was to head to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on Monday. That plan, however, met an untimely demise as we realized one (Tabitha) of our trio (Tabitha, Tessa, me) did not have the necessary identification to cross the border. Not wanting to spend our short trip hanging out in a North Dakota border town, we chose to redirect our travels within the lower forty-eight states.

After pontificating for quite some time, we chose Minnesota. Yes, Minnesota and its glorious 10,000 lakes, flat lands, and ungodly low speed limits. We shopped way too long at the MOA and accumulately nary $10 worth of goods. This is really not much to show for the eight hours of pain our feet and legs withstood. (Little did our feet know what they would have to take later, hehe — by all means read on).

After a short respite from the abuse, we hit the town. By advice of a friend of Tessa’s (who lives in Minneapolis), we went to a chill piano bar near downtown. Unfortunately, it was a Tuesday night, so the pianos were empty. However, we took advantage of happy hour; and, I enjoyed a little across the bar discreet flirtation with a clean-cut near-yuppie. Then, he left, and we left to catch bus 18 back to Bloomington. We somehow managed to miss the fact that the farthest we could get on that bus given the time of night was a sad 11+ blocks from our hotel. Needless to say, my feet hate me and continue to hold a grudge. Wednesday we met Tessa’s friend for lunch downtown (and watched a little lawn bowling on the roof of a building), wandered around a bit, then headed back to Vermtown.

Today, I made the seven hour trek back to the boonies. Did you know it’s only seven hours to the middle of nowhere?

Sounds like you had quite the trip! Glad you made it home safe and sound! :) It was good seeing you!
